چکیده

The theory describing nuclear magnetic resonance cross-polarization using adiabatic sweeps of the rf spin-lock fields through the Hartmann–Hahn matching condition is extended to small homonuclear coupled systems of the type INS . In particular, the connection is made between such experiments and the associated theoretical limits on polarization transfer—the ‘‘unitary bounds’’— demonstrating that these techniques can achieve the maximum transfer of polarization from the I spins to the S spins, subject to the constraint of angular momentum conservation imposed by spin-locking. Factors such as permutation symmetry of the spins, imperfect adiabaticity of individual crossings and fast sample spinning are shown to have no fundamental impact on the validity of these results. © 1997 American Institute of Physics. @S0021-9606~97!00445-5#

Cross-polarization phenomena in the NMR of fast spinning solids subject to adiabatic sweeps.

Cross-polarization magic-angle spinning (CPMAS) experiments employing frequency-swept pulses are explored within the context of obtaining broadband signal enhancements for rare spin S = 1/2 nuclei at very high magnetic fields. These experiments employ adiabatic inversion pulses on the S-channel ((13)C) to cover a wide frequency offset range, while simultaneously applying conventional spin-locki...

A comparison of NCO and NCA transfer methods for biological solid-state NMR spectroscopy.

Three different techniques (adiabatic passage Hartman-Hahn cross-polarization, optimal control designed pulses, and EXPORT) are compared for transferring (15)N magnetization to (13)C in solid-state NMR experiments under magic-angle-spinning conditions. We demonstrate that, in comparison to adiabatic passage Hartman-Hahn cross-polarization, optimal control transfer pulses achieve similar or bett...

Subject-loaded quadrifilar helical-antenna RF coil with high B1+ field uniformity and large FOV for 3-T MRI

A novel method for excitation of RF B1 field in high-field (3-T) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems using a subject-loaded quadrifilar helical antenna as an RF coil is proposed, evaluated, and demonstrated. Design, analysis, characterization, and evaluation of the novel coil when situated in a 3-T MRI bore and loaded with different phantoms are performed and cross-validated by extensive n...

Double-quantum cross-polarization NMR in solids

Double-quantum NMR is a useful way to obtain spectra of quadrupolar nuclei ('D, "N, ...) in solids. This allows measurements of the chemical shifts for these nuclear spins. The theory of Hartmann-Hahn cross polarization between I = 1/2 and such S = 1 spins is discussed. Particular attention is drawn to the cross polarization of the double-quantum transition. The thermodynamics and the dynamics ...
